Last year my sister and I had to make some difficult decisions and many of them impacted the way we spent our money, time and talent. The first to receive the chopping block was reenacting.
We barely went to five events last year even with the new 18th Century gear. Major reasons for this chopping block was that the hobby did not fit us or we did not fit the hobby. I think one other reason was the group we decided to join did not have the same goals we had. So we are going to take our time to find an organization that will fit the goals and what we want to get out of the hobby.
This coming season “2011″ marks the beginning of the 150th Anniversary of the American Civil War. So we will spend most of our vacation and weekends at living history events associated with the War between the States. Hopefully with new goals and less stress we can actually enjoy living history/reenacting this year. We may even connect with old and new friends.

This happens. We’ve been going through this too and decided that we might even want to skip a year of reenacting. After all, there are a lot of other things we enjoy too that we haven’t been able to do because we’ve been saving up our off and vacation days for reenactments. I don’t think we should feel obligated to make every reenactment. It should be enjoyable!
